Naya Urdu Afsana

Papers read on the ‘New Urdu Short Story’ at the Manto Centennial Conference, organised by the Gurmani Centre for Languages & Literature at LUMS, were compiled and edited by Yasmeen Hameed, which have been published in book form by Sang-e Meel Publications.

The titles of these essays were proposed by the Gurmani Centre organisers. In the first part of the book, critical aspects of the New Urdu Short Story, that spans a period of about fifty years, beginning in the early sixties, are discussed.

The second part of the book deals with the individual study of some important modern writers: Nayyar Masud, Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, Asad Muhammad Khan, Sami Ahuja, Khalida Husain, Mansha Yad, Hasan Manzar and Rasheed Amjad.
