This event was organized to announce Gurmani Centre’s first publication after the inception of its Publication Cell under the supervision of Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyar, in October 2023. The Gurmani Rahnuma Kitab: ‘Ilmi Nasr—Usool o Rasmiyāt (Gurmani Manual for Academic Writing) is designed as a valuable resource for everyone interested in Urdu academic prose and research writing. Both Syed Babar Ali, the spirit behind the Gurmani Centre’s foundation and Dr Ali Cheema, the Vice Chancellor LUMS, graced the occasion with their presence.

Dr Tabassum Kashmiri, a literary historian and critic, presided over the session, and Dr Najeeb Jamal, an Urdu critic and renowned researcher, joined the panel as a special guest. The hosts of the event were the editors of the book, Dr Nayyar and Dr Shaista Hassan. Present among the discussants were contributors to the manual from Lahore whose scholarly insights have added great value to this impactful project: Dr Nasrullah, Dr Fatima Fayyaz, Dr Ammara Rasheed, Dr Ambreen Salahuddin, and Dr Aurangzeb Niazi. They all unanimously agreed that the Gurmani Manual addressed fundamental issues related to research and academic writing and praised the Centre for undertaking this important project. Dr Nadhra Shahbaz Khan, Director Gurmani Centre, explained that the book has been named after the Gurmani Foundation to highlight the Centre’s endeavours and to broadcast the Gurmani legacy far and wide.
