The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature organized a Nātiya Mushāira to celebrate the devotional tradition of Urdu poetry in praise of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The program opened with a recording from the Lutfullah Khan Archive, which set a tone of reverence and continuity with the past. The first presentation was by Hammad Niazi, whose verses combined praise with supplication, weaving themes of the Prophet’s mercy, generosity, and the hope of renewal through his intercession. He was followed by Abbas Tabish, who reflected on light, gratitude, and spiritual assurance, and the way the love for the Prophet (peace be upon him) brings comfort and meaning to human life. The session concluded with Yasmeen Hameed, whose poetry highlighted memory and presence, reminding listeners of the lasting imprints of devotion and the closeness felt in relation to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Together, these recitations offered varied yet connected perspectives on the Nātiya tradition, reaffirming its enduring resonance in contemporary Urdu literature. The event was warmly received by the audience, who engaged with the readings in an atmosphere of reflection, reverence, and shared appreciation.
