Sanskrit Workshop (Level-II)

The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at LUMS successfully concluded Sanskrit (Level 2), a ten-session short course taught by Dr. Shahid Rasheed on Saturdays beginning April 4, 2026. Each six-hour session built upon the foundations established in the earlier Sanskrit (Level 1) course offered the previous year. Using Introduction to Sanskrit, Volume 1 by Thomas Egenes as the primary textbook, the course covered the three major types of Sandhi (euphonic combination of sounds), additional nominal declensions, further verb conjugations, and new grammatical structures. By the end of the course, students had developed the ability to read, analyze and translate simple Sanskrit texts.

The sustained offering of Sanskrit short courses by the Gurmani Centre represents a pioneering contribution to the revival of Sanskrit studies in Pakistan. By creating a structured pathway for learning Sanskrit and making this classical language accessible to a wider community of learners in Lahore, the Gurmani Centre is laying the foundations for future scholarship in South Asian intellectual, literary, and religious traditions.
